Delete a Broken Web Part From a SharePoint Page

Posted by Leave a Comment

If you have a Web Part causing errors on a page in SharePoint, then you probably need a way to delete or reset the Web Part so that you can access the page again. Luckily there is a quick and easy way to do that by adding a parameter to the URL. All you need to do is append ?Contents=1 to the end of the URL to the page.

For example, if we have a Web Part on a page at http://mysite.com/default.aspx throwing an error, we just need to change the URL to http://mysite.com/default.aspx?Contents=1

This will take you to the Web Part Page Maintenance page which is just a list of all Web Parts on the selected page with options to close, reset, or delete any of them.
