VirtualBox Error: Cannot Create the Machine Folder in the Parent Folder

Posted by 8 Comments

If you receive an error in VirtualBox such as:

Cannot create the machine folder ___ in the parent folder ___. Please check that the parent really exists and that you have permissions to create the machine folder.

You can usually resolve this by updating the Default Machine Folder in the VirtualBox settings. Open the settings by going to the File -> Preferences menu. Under the General section update the Default Machine Folder to a valid path.

This folder already exists and possibly belongs to another machine
